Unrest - Imperial F.F.r.r.

Unrest was band that was active during the early 1990s. It was formed out of Washington. The first album that the band put out was called “Tink of Southeast”; it was heavily entrenched into the sounds of hardcore. But the sounds on that album were still very refined that somehow gave them their own little niche on the scene. Then over the course of the next two albums their sound evolved and the band moved a little further away from the hardcore scene. In 1993 this album was released, which saw the band completely over-hauling their sound. The album contains “pop” songs but their arrangements are more worthy of jazz albums. A lot of interesting instruments were employed for the sounds found on this album like wine glasses half filled with water to produce the sounds, some weird keyboards. Acoustic guitar has been played with such a vengeance that it constantly evokes The Velvet Underground but the atmosphere created over here is dreamy. The band picks up the idea from The Talking Heads of how to make brilliant pop albums and evolves that idea to make the music found on this album simply majestic. Mark Robinson sings like that he is on a verge of either an emotional breakdown or filled with optimism. Philip Krauth keeps up the pace on his drums with his jazzy detours.

The album contains majestic pop numbers like “Suki”, “Cherry Cream On”, “Isabel”, “I do believe you are blushing”. Equally enthralling are the instrumental songs “Champion Nines”, “Firecracker”, “Sugarshack”. Half way through the album “Loyola” takes us for a psychedelic ride, which continues with “Yes, she is my skinhead girl”. In short the album sounds like a meeting point of Tim Buckley’s dreams, Van Morrison’s dramas and The Talking Heads pop sensibilities. Please give it a listen and let me know what you think about it.

Welcome!

The idea behind starting this blog, which would be mainly talking about rock music but would also contain my rants, is pretty simple. I know that you would be thinking ah! another fucking blogger who thinks no end of his music. Well, I am not here to give you an idea of the latest music scene. I think this whole indie-rock thing suck ass! it is nothing but a toned down version of what MTV sells. It is just less grotesque and not so over the top. But nonetheless it is mostly shit in my opinion. That is not to say that there are no good bands at the current moment.

Another thing to be kept in mind if you are visiting this blog is that I don't worship The Beatles or The Beach Boys. I agree that they are from the 1960s but in no way they are or were the best. I think otherwise, i.e. they were the shittiest bands of those times. Keeping this statement in mind it would be pretty clear to you as to what kind of music would be posted on this blog. I am not going to post the entire albums. I will just upload half of the album only so that it is sort of a teaser for you and then you can track down the full album. I unfortunately do not have the means of ripping my vinyl into mp3 formats. But I will get around this by letting you know what I am listening to on vinyl these days (mostly it is new music) and a short blurb and depending on whether it sparks an interest in you, you could then track it down for yourself.

Also, there will be a lot of adult language usage in the reviews so if one is easily offended then please do not visit this blog. I think I have covered most of the bases.

One more thing:  I HATE RADIOHEAD!
